01 The challenge
Most businesses have more marketing data than ever, yet struggle to answer simple questions — which campaigns bring customers, what an enquiry costs, whether SEO is paying off. Tracking is often half-configured, ad platforms over-count leads, and reports differ depending on who prepared them. Decisions about budget end up resting on assumptions rather than evidence.

04 In depth
Why measurement comes before marketing spend
Every marketing decision — which campaign to scale, which keyword to cut, whether SEO is working, whether a new market is worth entering — depends on knowing what produced an enquiry or a sale. Without accurate tracking, ad platforms optimise for the wrong things and reports become a matter of opinion. That is why we set up measurement before launching Google Ads or Meta campaigns, and why we audit it first when we take over an existing account.
Completed enquiries versus button clicks
The most common tracking mistake we find is counting a button click as a lead. Someone taps “Submit”, the form shows an error, they leave — but the account still records a conversion. Or someone taps “WhatsApp us”, the app opens and they never send a message.
We separate these clearly:
- Completed form submissions are tracked through a thank-you page or a confirmed success event, so only forms that actually went through are counted.
- Call clicks and WhatsApp clicks are tracked as clicks and named honestly — useful signals, but not the same as a confirmed enquiry.
- Purchases are tracked with order value and deduplicated, so revenue in your reports matches what your store recorded.
Where possible, we also encourage your team to note how each enquiry found you, so platform data can be checked against reality.
GA4 and Google Tag Manager
GA4 is Google’s current analytics platform. It is capable but easy to misconfigure — duplicate events, missing key events, internal traffic counted as customers. We set up a clean GA4 property and manage tags through Google Tag Manager, so tracking for GA4, Google Ads, Meta and other platforms lives in one place, is documented, and can be changed without touching your website’s code.
Reporting that people actually read
A good report answers the questions the business is asking, not every question the data could answer. We build Looker Studio dashboards around a small set of agreed measures — enquiries or sales by source, cost per result, trends over time — and add detail pages for the people who need it. Leadership gets a summary; the marketing team gets the working view.
Where it helps, we bring in data from outside the ad platforms: Search Console for organic performance, a spreadsheet of enquiries, or lead status from a CRM. Connecting marketing to what happened after the enquiry is often the most useful step, and our CRM and automation service can help where your sales process needs structure first.
How to judge whether your tracking is right
A few simple checks reveal a lot:
- Do conversions in Google Ads and Meta roughly match the enquiries your team actually receives?
- Can you see results by channel and campaign without manual spreadsheets?
- Does tracking still work after the last website update?
If the answer to any of these is no, an audit is usually the quickest way to find out why.
Consent-aware tracking
Visitors should have a say in how they are tracked. We configure tags to respect consent choices, using a consent banner and Google Consent Mode where appropriate, and avoid sending personal information into analytics. This means some visits will not be fully recorded, and we explain that openly in reports. Organic search data from Search Console also supports our SEO services.
Pricing: Tracking setup is usually a one-time project, with optional ongoing monitoring and reporting. We quote after a short audit of your website and accounts.
What is the difference between a button click and a completed enquiry?
A button click only shows that someone tapped "Submit" or "WhatsApp us". It does not tell you whether the form went through without errors, or whether a message was actually sent. We track completed form submissions — usually via a thank-you page or confirmed success event — and label WhatsApp and call clicks honestly as clicks, so reports do not overstate results.
Do I need Google Tag Manager if I already have GA4?
Not strictly, but it helps. Tag Manager lets us add and change tracking for GA4, Google Ads, Meta and others in one place, without editing your website's code each time. It also makes tracking easier to test, document and hand over to your own team or another partner later.
Can you track phone calls?
Yes, in several ways. Calls from Google Ads call assets can be tracked by Google. Taps on phone numbers on your website can be tracked as click-to-call events. For calls where someone dials your number manually, a call tracking service with forwarding numbers can be used if your budget and setup allow it.
Why do GA4 and my ad platforms show different numbers?
Each tool counts differently. Ad platforms may count conversions after someone views or clicks an ad within a set window, while GA4 uses its own attribution rules. Consent choices, ad blockers and privacy settings also cause gaps. We explain the differences and focus on trends and on matching data against your actual enquiries and sales.
Can you connect our CRM or sales data to the reports?
Often, yes. Where your CRM or sales system can export or share data, we can bring lead status or revenue into a Looker Studio report so marketing is judged on qualified leads and sales, not just form fills. How far this goes depends on the systems you use and what access they allow.
Is tracking compliant with privacy rules?
We set up tracking to respect visitor consent, using a consent banner and Google Consent Mode where needed, and we avoid collecting personal details in analytics. Requirements differ by market, so your privacy policy should describe what you track; we explain what the setup involves so it can be stated accurately.
